Is Tolmie Peak trail hard?
Tolmie Peak Trail is a 5.6 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Carbonado, Washington that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is best used from June until October.
Do you need a pass for Tolmie Peak?
There is no park entrance booth for this hike. A few miles before you reach the Tolmie Peak Trailhead, there is a self-pay station, if you do not already have a Mt. Rainier National Park entrance pass or an America the Beautiful Pass. The trailhead is marked on Google Maps (Tolmie Peak Trailhead).
Can you stay in Tolmie Peak Lookout?
WTA Pro Tip: While Tolmie Peak and Eunice Lake are picturesque in the extreme, you’ll have to get your sunrise or sunset photos via dayhike. This area is closed to overnight camping. Try getting your alpine start from the Mowich Campground at the trailhead for this hike.
Can you swim at Tolmie Peak?
From the lookout the trail to the main summit further on the ridge is pretty easy to follow, only 0.2 miles further past the lookout. Swam in Eunice Lake on the way down! The clear blue water was perfect and quite warm. Swimming in this lake is a must!
Can you swim in Mowich Lake?
Is swimming allowed? A: Brrrr. The water in Mowich Lake comes from snowmelt so the water there is going to be very cold. We don’t recommend swimming there because of the risks inherent in swimming in cold water.
Can you fish at Tolmie State Park?
Displays on the beach and in the upper picnic areas describe the evolution / ecology of the shoreline and the history of the park. A recreational license is required for fishing and shellfish harvesting at Washington state parks.
Is Lake Serene open?
Access area open: Year-round. Open to vehicles only during the regulated sport fishing season(s).
What pass do you need for Colchuck Lake?
Follow the sometimes rough and steep dirt road 3.7 miles to Stuart Lake trailhead. Parking for about 40 cars and a toilet is available (no water). Northwest Forest Pass required.

Winter/Spring (October – June): The trail is covered in deep snow in winter, but is open for snowshoeing. The road to Paradise closes nightly at the gate at Longmire typically from November to mid April depending on weather; always check road status before starting your trip.
